Versatile Metal Pedal
Digitech's Extreme Metal Distortion is built like a tank, about the same size as the old DOD Death Metal Pedal. It has metal knobs that are tight so you don't have to worry too much about accidentally hitting one and losing that dialed in tone. A switch that cuts from loose to tight, a very bright Blue LED. It's true bypass and on top of that, the pedal is super quiet. At first I thought it might have an internal noise gate because it's so quiet. Most distortion or overdrive pedals, when you turn the gain up, almost always have a hiss that runs through your amp. Most of the time I end up having to use a gate in the signal chain, but there is no need for one with this pedal. There are four knobs, a Level, a High knob with a Low ring, a Mid knob with a Frequency ring, and a gain knob. There is a switch to choose between tight and loose. This really affects the tone of the pedal. It's a very versatile pedal, I was able to dial in tones from Masters of Puppets with a really tight response and cut mids, to a Bark at the Moon with a loose feel and boosted mids to even some Pantera from Vulgar Display of Power. I'm sure if I fiddled around with this pedal I could just about get nearly any metal sound I wanted. Before I bought this I thought the best distortion pedal out there was Line 6's Uber Metal Pedal, which is still a great pedal, but the construction of this pedal alone beats that pedal.Digitech's New line of Hardwire pedals are a welcome change from the company's past. Digitech of course used to be called DOD, which means Division of Digitech. And nowhere on this pedal can you find the name Digitech on it, and I believe they did this for a reason, to try to get players to give it a try before they found out who it was made by. It's not that Digitech(DOD) didn't have any good products, its just the reputation of the company more or less put a stigma on all its related products that they were cheap. If you were looking for high end pedals, you looked at Maxon, MXR, Electro-Harmonix, etc.. You definitely looked past most Digitech products. If your looking for a well built pedal with lots of tone, look no further.

Trash & Death metal
I'm the owner of the Boss MT-2 Metalzone and a Digitech GRUNGE pedal in addition to this TL-2. I can reproduce the death metal tones of the grunge without getting the buzz that the grunge gives me, and reproduce some metalzone-esque sounds without everything sounding -as- digital as the MT-2 tends to be.I like the flexibility of this pedal. Though, I feel like I can't realistically move the mids knob anywhere below the 3/4 position (therefore restricted to the 3/4 to 4/4 range) without destroying my town. I've tried this with the mids on different frequency levels. Maybe it's a matter of time and constant trial and error, but I can't get that high bass and treble and low mids thrashy sound without the mids being a little higher than they would be on the MT-2. However, the lower treble, higher mid tones are pretty good, and the ability to switch between loose and tight is a very nice feature; for me it adds a versatility that compensates for the shortcomings as I perceive them.I think I'd buy this again, but the decision would be against the Electro-Harmonix metal muff pedal and some of Blackstar's products (though pricier).

a box of bees. Knobs hardy do anything with the tone.

Pretty good sound, but NOISY.
This pedal has awesome distortion and MEGA crunch that can verge on the ridiculous when you turn the gain up all the way. The adjustable mid control is a very cool tone-shaping option. However, this thing is TOO noisy. I have 120w tube heads that have enough gain to put blisters on your eardrums, but they don't make anywhere near the amount of hum on max gain that this thing does.

Great metal tones, versatility, and durable
Wow the metal tones I can pump out with this pedal are amazing. I am very happy with this pedal. I stomp on this everyday at least 15x I have had no issues. This pedal is extremely durable and I am so glad I purchased it.One thing I have noticed is that when I start to increase the settings with this pedal specifically it creates a hum from my amplifier that is pretty annoying. I am giving the pedal the benefit of doubt and attributing the hum to my 9v power source. It may need a better power filter.Has anyone else had this issue? If so please let me know if you solved it!Great pedal, I am so happy with it!

More Metal For Your Money
Great pedal. It is much better than other "metal" pedals. The advertisements state that there is far less tone degradation than most pedals on the market and you can really tell the difference. I have a multi-effects pedal board that I won't use ït anymore because I can hear the difference in guitar tone. This pedal really lets you hear what your guitar is supposed to sound like. My next purchase will be the hardwire delay pedal.

Good sound but you havr to tinker too much
I'm more of a simple guy. I want to plug and not tinker with stuff all day. I wanna play dammit. I like the sound of this pedal but you really have to tinker with this thing to get it in the sweet spot. When you do you can get some new age brutal metal tones but I would prefer having to adjust it less.

Excellent Distortion Pedal!
I have a ton of distortion pedals, I've really been a bit of a collector and purchase almost every one I could find. I've started selling many of them as I don't think there's much reason to have so many and I'd rather just get down to my 10 best ones - and this is one which I will never sell, it's definitely one of my favorites and easily in my top 10 distortions of all time. It just sounds great, has brilliant tone shaping with the Tight / Loose switch and the EQ controls, it's level is really good, it has good quality components - the switches and knobs are really nice to use and it feels like quality. It's an excellent pedal and they seem to have reduced the price a lot - it was twice as much money when I bought it (I think it's around £50 here on Amazon at the moment). If you're looking for a distortion, especially for metal, this one would be a really good choice. Some of the other pedals which I think are great for metal aren't available to buy new anymore, like the Damage Control Demonizer and the Ibanez Tube King. I also like the Blackstar Metal and the ZVex Box Of Metal a lot too.

Great pedal. On par with the Boss Metal Zone or better. Highly recommend this pedal.
