Well Done, Doubles as a Social Story For Kiddos With Autism

This is one of several Daniel Tiger books I bought for my son. He likes the PBS show quite a lot, and he struggles to accept new books, but has recently shown a willingness to do so if they parallel TV shows he likes. There isn't a ton to say about this book. It's meant to be an early reader, so the phrasing is short and simple. What I like most about it though, is that it really actually can be used as a Social Story to help teach or underscore the concepts of sharing and pretending for kiddos with Autism. For our little guy, usually toys aren't the problem. Even though he likes a few of his toys well enough, he doesn't have anywhere near a strong enough attachment to them to object if someone else wants them. But try to get him to share a big bowl of popcorn? Uh-uh, those kernels are his, thank you very much!I like that this book talks about Prince Wednesday being sad when Daniel doesn't want to share at first, because it helps provide a "why" that many kiddos with Autism may not automatically understand on their own. Sharing brings happiness to others, which is a great thing. And later in the book when Miss Elaina shares her car, she pretends so that she has something to play with, which can be a good way of talking about the benefits of pretending. The only thing I've seen my little guy do that even comes close to that is copying the way his sister pretend snores when he didn't want to get up out of bed and clean something I asked him to. It's the only time I've ever seen him do anything even close, and his mind I'm guessing he probably thought of it as imitating his sister trying to get out of doing work ;) So while pretending isn't something we're ready to conquer yet, it is something that can be a struggle for some children with Autism, my son included, so I like that it's in there. And probably most kiddos will like that there are stickers in the back of this thing. My son will just try to eat them, so I'm going to have to watch these carefully. Overall, I think this is a cute book and I love that it can double as a social story for a couple very important things.

We love Daniel!

I bought this for my 3 year old to try to get her to share with her baby brother. She (we) loves Daniel Tiger. All around a great book.

Excellent story and pictures

This is like the 10th Daniel tiger book I’ve purchased and the story is excellent and the pictures are adorable, colorful and bright and keep my 3 year old engaged long enough for me to read the whole book for him. This series never disappoints!

Simply and Concisely Written Teaches a Great Lesson

Simply and concisely written, it had a great message of taking turns and how to share. My grand daughter was a "serial biter" in toddler daycare due to issues of sharing. She loves the book and this has helped

Great book for new readers!

We’re in the process of teaching sight words. This book is great and my 3yr old loves it. It helps that he enjoyed watching Daniel the Tiger. If your little one is starting to read, these books are a good buy. The stories are good and the Q&A at the end helps with recollection.

Great book for sharing!

I really like this book. After finding out my son wasn’t really understanding the concept of sharing. I bought this book, and he loves it. He has a much better hold on the concept, the application is still a process though.

Lovely story

My 3 year old and I enjoyed the book. I only wished the book was a full size as other Daniel Tiger paperbacks (which is squarely) I got previously.

Amazing book for little ones

My 3 year old was going through a not-sharing phase (“no, it’s mine”) so we got this book. He almost immediately started to share with his little friends, just like Daniel! He has been reading this book periodically for months now, he still really enjoys this book. Yay!
