Tennis Training Aid, Learn Topspin in 2 Minutes a Day

This contraption is pretty cool. It forces you to brush up against the ball, creating topspin. You can learn some topspin technique and develop muscle memory using this product. It feels nice to hit. There are a few problems, however. I think it would be better if the plastic arms and attached sail could be removable, as not everyone likes to hit the ball with such a brushing motion. Also, the fixed nature of the side arms and attached sail prevent you from practicing other types of swings (e.g. flat shots, slice, volleys, etc.) Some players, even top professionals, hit out through the ball a bit more, in which case the racket would be banging up against the side brackets each time. For example, if Federer hit a one handed backhand on this, the racket would hit the sides on the follow through. When you watch videos of players from the side, you can see that not all the strokes would work for this product. This would not be a problem if we had the option of removing the side brackets and sail, but alas, it is fused in and unremovable. Another problem is that the rubber band that holds the arm in place wore down pretty quickly. After a weekend of use, the rubber band wore down and broke. There was only one extra band provided. I wrote the website for the company to request additional bands, and initially, there was no response. If you want additional bands, you can order similar looking bungee cords from Amazon, and tie them yourself to replace. Still, it is a lot of hassle, when they can just provide you with a bunch of extra bands, fairly cheaply.I also bought the Eye Coach. The Eye Coach is fairly versatile, and you can practice many different kinds of swings on it. However, the swing arm on the Eye Coach is fairly heavy, and it causes some stress on your arm to hit it repeatedly. By comparison, the Topspin Pro has a lighter swing arm, and feels very satisfying to hit. Furthermore, the spinning mechanism on the Topspin Pro is much smoother, so you can see the topspin much better, and adjust your swing accordingly. The Topsin Pro is also much quieter to hit. When you hit the Eye Coach, it is quite loud, and you can hear people banging away on it from upstairs. However, they both have their uses.I should note that I initially wrote a worse review for the Topspin Pro, due to the problem with the bands, and lack of customer response. I was impressed that recently, the inventor of the device wrote me a personal email to apologize for the oversight, and he assured me he would take care of the problem. He reports that the band problem has been fixed, and the material used is now much more durable. They are also looking into updating the design in the future based on customer feedback.

Great for seeing how much (or little) TS you generate. Wish I'd had it 30 years ago.No substitute for on court practice though.

The media could not be loaded. It took me 3 months to decide on whether to buy this or not. I already bought the servemaster tennis tool (which yes, could’ve saved money and used socks/balls, but that’s another review) and wasn’t sure I needed to buy another tennis aid/gadget especially at a price above $100. Finally, I decided based on reviews to buy it. There are 4 of us in my family that play tennis. My boys 9, 6, 5 have all used this. When we got it out of the box, we had to set it up and attach the ball (slide it in). It comes with a carrying case. I find that handy because I put this in my car and bring to the courts so that when I am hitting with one of the boys, one of the remaining can hit with this while another works on serves. During rainy days, they use it indoors. It’s easy to use...you try to swipe the ball so that it spins without trying to push the ball (kind of like the swipers on a windshield). Besides topspin, to have great control in tennis, one tip is to have the ball on your strings as long as possible when doing a stroke. Summary of best pros: easy to transport, easy to set up, easy to use, and serves its purpose. I haven’t yet taken it off it’s base to work on serves. Con: Still wish it were cheaper. It gets boring as every repetitive activity unless you are totally obsessed. Short intervals or a few min every day should help build the muscle memory. As an adult the learning curve is lower than kids in my opinion and it helps to close my eyes every few swipes to remember the feeling. I’ve added a video of my 5 year old using this.

The spring breaks easily. If you are buying for a child less than 12 it may show benefits. The unit now sits in closet collecting dust. My unit broken. Didn't last 3 months. I am a 58 year old that hit it without using much power at all and the spring return broke. I don't recommend this product. Way overpriced!!! Way too flimsy.UPDATE!!!!!!!. The above is my previous post. I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 as this is still an ongoing situation and I feel the need to be fair to the manufacturer.I must say that Topspin is trying to do the right thing. Their customer service response has been quick, sincere, and gracious. Their customer service is worthy of a 5 star rating. I am not sure why my first attempt for fairness did not get a response??? May have been missed by my error. spam mail? I am not sure??? However... With That being said I will like to add comments to my post.First, I must be clear. there is no spring, but a bungee cord mechanism that is easily replaceable if it wears. Topspin is sending me replacement bungee cords free of charge, they also sent me a video and the fix is simple and fast. It is unfair to say that the unit does not hold up to reasonable usage at this point. I may have had a bad bungee cord. it must have snapped somehow because I never saw it after the attached ball failed to bounce back I will try using the unit again and repost my outcome. I will say, I did enjoy the unit when I first bought it. I hit in my garage during the cold months in preparation for the upcoming spring. As far as the price... that is subjective and can be more fairly rated if I get more use and years out of the unit. For that unknown I am taking off 1 star.So lets close out by saying my jury is still out on the quality of the unit. However the folks at Topspin deserve a reevaluation. I strongly feel that all customer service posts on this site deserves a fair assessment otherwise I am doing all involved an injustice.
