great tool for the money! works perfect on my boats
worked very well right out of the packet. Not you are paying ten bucks! dont expect to grease rusted joints on your tractor thats been sitting for 30 years.I lubed up all my outdrive grease points in 3 mins with this - only tiny issue is you cant get a small squirt of grease, you have to pretty much cock the handle far to get it to pump out grease, then u sit with a blob twice the size. This is my first grease gun so not sure if this is how they work - but anyway VERY happy with it! Grease oozed from joints almost instantly :)I bought an all round marine grease cartridge/tube for 8 bucks which I will use on everything instead of getting all confused about what type t use (for my general needs at least). Its a marine grease "specialist" WD‑40 224553 from HD - works on just about everything!Very happy!oh - be nice to your truck and find something u can slide over the top as a cap - that way it wont collect dirt and keep the carpet clean too!

Nothing Fancy - Just Does The Job
If you're just looking for a standard grease gun to get the job done, then this is the one. I got this one to replace an old worn out standard gun that my dad gave me years ago. It comes with a metal tube and grease fitting that you just attach to the top of the gun. You might want to make sure the fitting is secured tightly to the tube before you screw it onto the gun, so that no grease squirts out from around the bottom of the fitting when you pump the gun. The gun uses standard 14 oz. grease cartridges and they are easy to load. Just follow the instructions that come with the gun. After I got mine put together, I lubricated my brush hog and the gun seemed to work just fine. This gun has a rigid tube and my old one had a flexible rubber tube which I kept in case I want to change tubes someday, but for now the tube that came with this gun seems to work OK. I don't believe you'll find a better value standard grease gun for this price.

Issues with Metal Flakes From Casting
Upon removing the barrel of the grease-gun from the head of the grease-gun for the first time, I could feel that there were problems with the threads. Sure enough, the internal threads on the head were shredded off in a few places. The metal shavings from the faulty threads of course contaminated the o-rings and the inside of the gin in general. To be clear, this is not user error, but a factory defect, possibly due to a bubble or other contaminant in the casting. The damaged patches on the threads are only a few mm by a few mm each. The barrel can still be threaded back onto the head. The issue is that the grease-gun became contaminated with metal flakes necessitating a thorough and careful cleaning.Grease is injected into working parts to reduce metal on metal contact and extend machine life. However, if metal chips such as those produced by the faulty threads are introduced into a machine along with the grease, it will likely have a harmful effect on the machine. Bearings and gears can be very expensive to replace. This product is very low cost at ~10 USD. It seems that Plews is only able to deliver it for such a low price by skipping QC steps. This grease-gun could be quite costly, if it damages a valuable machine component or causes a dangerous accident due to accelerated machine failure. If one purchases this grease-gun, it might be best if one were to disassemble it and carefully inspect it for metal chips, under good lighting conditions, being sure to carefully remove every metal chip/flake before using this grease-gun, and keeping in mind that there may be metal flakes on the casting that simply have not broken loose yet.

Great value for price!
Extremely great value for the money! Easy to use and built like a tank, this thing feels like it will last a lifetime! I would be shocked if it ever stopped working, but it would fill in nicely as a self-defense weapon if it did. (Heavy and steel) If you are one the fence about buying this one versus a name brand, just save yourself some cash and buy this one!

Works fine with a standard cardboard grease cartridge
Works fine with a standard cardboard grease cartridge. It comes with a tip that will mate to the ball of a standard grease fitting. You probably will want to adjust/turn/screwthe adapter to get an almost grease tight mating. But if you need to inject grease into something else, or the fitting can't be reached with the inflexible tube provided, you'll need to acquire and use some alternative tips or filler adapters. (My first grease gun actually, so I learned thisby observation and experimentation.)Heh, it's grease so it's going to be somewhat messy, but probably true of any grease gun, even if you pay a lot more.

Buy it, stop looking and buy it.
Awesome, this one is so much better than the one I got at menards. I bought two, one from Amazon and one from Menards, but I didn’t open the boxes for about a month. Now that I’m looking at doing some reviews on Amazon I just realize the one that didn’t completely sucked came from Amazon and the one that absolutely sucked came from Menards. It used like a completely different method and technology to fill itself with grease and dispense itself. It was more like a syringe and it sucked in the cold I couldn’t extract any grease. This one you just put the whole canister in there its super simple.

Simple and easy
While this is a light duty grease gun, it served my needs. The casing is not thin and doesn't bend. The threads line up well and the top screws on without a problem. I may use it a 2-3 times a year on easy-to-reach fittings. No problems with feeding and bleeding the air out. The instructions were surprisingly helpful in that respect. At this price point, I can have separate grease guns for different compositions of grease. No extensive clean up to swap out different tubes, no cross contamination and less waste. In my opinion, that alone is worth the $10 when you are using $15-25+ tubes of grease.

Great gun for DIY user
For the price, this gun works great as an at home diy gun. I did have to do some tightening on the head at first, or the grease shot out around the base of the nozzle instead of in the zerk, but that wasn't a big deal to me. The only other thing I noticed is that it really needs to be firmly seated on the zerk or it doesn't load everything properly, again not a huge deal, but I took a star off since I've used better.
