Classic comic-book series reprinted
This volume reprints Donald Duck stories of Carl Barks from 1948. It is volume 6 (chronologically, but the fifth actually issued) of a new `Carl Barks Library' dedicated to reprinting his comic book stories of Donald Duck and his Uncle Scrooge. It contains 202 pages of comics, along with 20 pages of Story Notes (which include reproductions of the comic covers, a 2-page feature - "Life Among the Ducks" - on Carl Barks, and a two of pages of biographical and bibliographical notes. The stories, all dating from 1948, and varying in length from 1 page to 32 pages, are reprinted fromWalt Disney's Comics and Stories #88-92March of Comics #20Full Color #189 & #199For more than 30 years I have read comics fans, reviewers and commentators praising Carl Barks stories, but until this series came along, I had not actually read any of them, being more of a superhero / adventure comics' reader since childhood. Being now in my 50s and having more mature tastes, and (I haven`t stopped collecting stuff) seeing that this was a new series of collected editions, I was tempted to buy the first volume to see what all the fuss was about. Well, now I have. It is simply just superb storytelling and artistry. You soon forget these are talking animals you are reading about, and just get caught up in the storytelling. Start collecting now! And your children and grandchildren can also read them. Note that this particular volume was not as entertaining as Walt Disney's Donald Duck: Lost in the Andes (The Complete Carl Barks Disney Library) , so if you are new to this series, start with that one.
