I've had the CO2 trap for just under one month. I bought and installed the timer about 2 weeks after i got the trap and saw that it was working well, and I've just run out of CO2 this morning. That seems to line up. I lost little under a month's worth of CO2 by running it 24/7 the first two weeks.So, this is pretty convenient from a time savings perspective. Here in Chicago, I should only have to go refill my tank 2x during mosquito season, not to mention the savings on CO2. Even once a month would be too much for me, personally.Like other reviewers stated, using a garden hose timer may not work due to H2O molecules being larger than CO2 molecules. Also I question how much savings there would be if you got a digital timer like this one, plus the fittings and again, the time savings. Same thing for aquarium based setups, it's not designed for outdoors, plus you have to power it too.This is compact and purpose built. I'm happy with this purchase.

I agree that this is expensive for what it is....but I also haven't found another device quite like this. I use a schedule of 6-9am/4-12am. That is 11 hours of operation, which will double the lifespan of my 20lb CO2 tank. I got ~24 days out of my first 20lb CO2 tank running continuously at the 0.5kg/h setting with my BG-Mosquitaire-CO2 before adding the timer. The timer will pay for itself in one season.It's also pretty easy to remember how to operate with the 3 buttons. By comparison, I have a circulation pump timer (also 3 buttons) for my water heater and it's a nightmare...I need to dig up the pdf instructions multiple times a year.The other reviewer suggested using a hose timer and some fittings. Clever idea, but I don't think that would work well with a gas...the seals are completely different. There are other gas timers/solenoids you can find, but those are for indoor applications (aquariums & hydroponics).The BG CO2 timer was clearly built for outdoor use. Well, almost (-1 star)...the battery compartment door doesn't have a gasket for some reason, but it also secures with 2 screws and has flashing around the edges of the door. That was a curious choice but I believe it would keep rain out (though would not survive being submerged). You can stuff the 9V battery in with the contacts inward and that made me feel OK with minor water intrusion.

Set timer up for first time today. Steps appeared easy...until the hose connector entering into unit snapped when hand-tightening. The nipple and nut mechanism are constructed of low-quality plastic. I am 2 days past my return window. I'll update if I have any luck with replacement/refund.

Buy a garden hose timer, a couple 3/4" Female Thread Hose Bib to 1/4" Compression Tubing Adapter and a male to male GHT adapter to create this at a fraction of the cost.
