The converter is easy to use. You simply plug into the USB port to get the system setup. Windows can automatically go out and find the right driver. I was able to get it setup within 5 minutes to get rid of the driver error issue.The screws are small though. Need a fine point flat head screw driver. Would have been nice to have included one.

This is a well made USB-C Serial Converter to bring in signals from RS-485 and RS-422 systems. I use a similar converter that has a USB-A connector for interfacing with BACnet MS/TP communications work, and finding this well made USB-C device is great as more and more laptops are now moving to the USB-C ports. If you are in a situation where you need USB-C connectivity, this device works well and save you from having to use a USB-A to USB-C adapter to get it all connected. I also like that the device has a short cable on the USB-C side so that it does not rigidly stick out of the USB-C port you are connecting into and inviting port damage if you need to move the laptop around and get careless (Been there, Done that). The TDI chip assures quality and good driver software for most anything you need, and the bright LEDs visible through the smoked plastic cover are essential for testing and troubleshooting. The terminal strip used for the field side wring has smaller openings for the wire than I would like (I prefer 18 gauge and these are smaller), and as expected the screws for the termination are very small flathead screws as well. I use an old Honeywell pneumatic thermostat tool for this since I am old and have a few available, but any small screwdriver will work. You can also insert jumper wires that terminate in your choice of connector (spade lugs, alligator clips, etc.) and leave them in place with the device to avoid the small screwdriver issue. I'm also a little concerned about the plastic case on the device and how it will hold up when tossed around in a technician tool bag, but time will tell on this. All in all, a nice device at a reasonable price.

I have tons of these that are USB-A and they're all great.But as we keep moving forward and USB-C becomes more and more standard, this is really necessary.Works fine. I prefer the FTDI chip. Big marks for USB-C.

I'm using this adapter to troubleshoot BACnet and Modbus RS-485 networks and it does connect and perform great. The driver shows that it is using the FTDI chipset and it popped up and worked just fine. The chip is actually visible in the picture and shows FTDI 2335-B.The connection labels are on the circuit board and are a little tough to see through the casing, but they are marked. If you're using RS-485 they are marked as A+/B-/NC/NC/GND from left to right in my picture and of course NC stands for No Connection. The RS-422 connections would be the TXD+/TXD-/RXD+/RXD-/GND on the row above.I don't have any RS-422 equipment to test that setup, but given the quality of the rest of the product I don't anticipate any issues.The only issue I've run into is that the terminals are super tiny and I have to keep an ultra-small screwdriver on hand to connect it. They also don't have a lot of room for wire. If you have 18 gauge wire it is a super tight fit. I end up using dupont jumper wires or 24ga BACnet wire to tie in and connect to the network and it works fine. Don't let the terminal size scare you away... it is just something to note.

Exactly as described.Great quality product that has the FTDI chip. FTDI is compatible with Windows 11 PC's and requires no additional driver downloads. Plug-and-play.I've only used the RS485 and it works great. Simply set the address and speed, and you're good to go.

I have a professional PTZ camera that uses RS422 or RS485 to control the Pan, Tilt, and Zoom. With the USB to serial adapter, I was able to cut the end off an Ethernet cable and put the appropriate wires into the terminals on this adapter to make it work. I found other USB to RJ45 adapters that had a pinout that worked with the console port of a switch, but the pinout of the RJ45 on the PTZ camera was different.It was automatically recognized by my Windows 11 computer I didn't need to install a driver.I like the clear casing and the numbering on the terminals.

This is an RS-485/RS-482 to USB-C adapter based around the ubiquitous FT232 usb to serial chip. It's a convenient form factor, with a modern USB-C port that doesn't require a dongle to work with most laptops. The FTDI chip seems to be genuine and works great.At the end is a five-pin green connector. The board is encased in a smoky gray case making it hard to see the top silkscreen, but the pins are labeled on the bottom as 1 through 5. Respectively, these pins are:1: TXD+ (RS-485 A)2: TXD- (RS-485 B)3: RXD+4: RXD-5: GNDIf you're connecting RS-485 wiring, use pin 1 as A and pin 2 as B. The other two pins are used for RS-482 and left unconnected for RS-485.There's no 120 ohm termination option here, and that's a shame. It would be nice if there was a little jumper you could set or something. The board's pretty full, but I wouldn't have minded a slightly larger size...

Used to interface into PLC controler for industrial HVAC system.Cord is short, only 6 inches and you will need longer wires for the serial side to connect to equipment.Using on the bench, there were no issues and the cord length was fine. The USB-C plug is great, it's not the standard cheap plug. This one appears to be able to last many uses.The case of the adapter is a dark smoked plastic that you can see through. The markings on the PCB of where to attach the serial lines is dificult to read. Don't loose the instruction books....
