Bought this to transfer data from my husband's 2015 MacBook pro to his brand new 2025 MacBook pro. We needed an adapter because his thunderbolt is a bit older. It worked like a charm.

It works for my video editing
The media could not be loaded. I have many MiniDV tapes that I want to edit using iMovie. Because the MiniDV format is so old, it has been difficult to find a way to connect a camcorder to my 2016 MacBook Pro.The Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt Adapter was the missing link in my connection from Camcorder to computer. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I wasn’t sure if this would work or not because the reviews are so conflicting. I ordered the adapter because it would make the physical connection I needed and was willing to give it a try.I now have the cable connection completed and have successfully imported video from my camcorder. I have been working for a long time on resolving the connection issue and am very happy to have this working solution.I have included a short video to show how I made the connection and show that I am able to connect to the camcorder and import video.

An essential adapter if you care about keeping Firewire devices out of the waste stream
This $50 Apple Thunderbolt 3 USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adapter is one of two adapters required to connect a Firewire device (such as my older G-Drive mini 320 GB and 500 GB external drives) to a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port on my 2023 Apple Mac Mini M2 computer. The other adapter is a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, which can be found on eBay for around $130. Though relatively expensive, these adapters enable one to make use of perfectly good devices otherwise destined for recycling (at best).

This WILL Work With Older Apple Thunderbolt Displays!
This item will work with older Apple Thunderbolt displays that have the lightning bolt on the connector. I am running a 2024 MacBook Pro, and it connected without any issues.
