All you need is Sphaghnum Moss
I usually make up my own potting soil according to the needs of what I'm planting. I find the roll out flower garden idea terrific, so much more economical than buying the flowers individually. The backing seemed rather inadequate for the seeds' needs. If you apply a thin layer (too thick, and the seeds can't push their way through) of Sphaghnum Moss, it will hold the moisture in just a bit longer, and it will be lighter in color when it needs watering, easier to tell when it's dry. Which is usually twice a day.Be very careful when watering, use the mist setting, Sphaghnum Moss is very light weight and will wash away before it is saturated with water. If you still have your roll out from before, and didn't soak it bad enough for the seeds to mold, then applying the Sphaghnum should enable them to germinate. Just remember, older seeds take a bit longer. Now to business, delivery was the usual couple of days. The seeds are flourishI'ming wherever the Sphaghnum Moss is covering the seed mat. They are now approximately an inch tall... So the seller delivered as promised.

This can be fun if you know what you're doing
I was always curious about 'instant gardens' like this when I saw them advertised in the old Spencer's Gifts catalogues in the 60s and 70s but my mother refused to buy them, saying they probably wouldn't grow. Judging from the comments here, that suggested that might be the case but I suspected people assumed it would be a no-fuss garden. Well, no. It's just as much fuss as growing any other flower garden from seed. Since I have a shady area alongside my carport, buying the Shady Garden version was the obvious choice. I bought two. I prepared the bed as for any seeds -- I dug down about six inches and turned over the soil and amended it with new garden soi. I then rolled them out, which was easy enough, with a total area of 20' x 10". That was April 15th, 2020. Reading the reviews that you should cover the carpet with a thin layer of mulch, I did that too, leaving a few bald spots as an experiment. I then watered it a few times a day. Within about ten days, the first seedlings started to pop up -- and in the bald spots much fewer did. I suspected all along that the seeds were probably just whatever was leftover on the floor of a seed warehouse and now I'm pretty sure of that because what's listed on the box is simply not what came up. There were NO Chinese forget-me-nots, baby's breath, baby blue eyes, candy tuft, five spots, balsam, dwarf columbine, pansies, johnny jump ups, coleus, or tussock bellflowers. There are what they simply called daisies but these are really pot marigolds. Lots of those. Also sweet alyssum, bachelor buttons, sweet william but also some rather unusual things like doubtful knight's spur, butter-and-eggs, lance leaved coreopsis and others. All of those were fun to see come up but they are mostly not shade plants -- in fact I moved some out of the deeper shade into the sun where they did much better. The pictures are from today, August 4th. Some of them have not yet bloomed. Some of these should reseed themselves. Bottom line, it'll work, and it's fun to see what you get. It's more like a mystery garden than a no-fuss instant garden.

never saw one flower out of 4 units
never grew ...2 of 4 i bought were blank ...had no seeds from the get go..however since i am an optimist . i had faith and watered once or twice a day ... bottom line they never dried out as directions said not to let them .... said would have flowers in 4 to 6 weeks .... well thats why i bought them i had 10 of my old college friends coming in for a weekend in about 6 weeks out so i thought they would be beautiful by then... but nothing ever happened and my return window of course did NOT allow for my waiting and HOPING flowers would come up and bloom..... i am an avid amazon shopper and am very very disappointed in this result....

did not grow...at all
was looking forward to these, as I had bought similar roll out flowers from Home Depot 2 years ago. I couldn't find any at Home Depot, so I tried these. I followed the instructions on the box to the letter, and nothing grew at all. I bought 4 boxes to cover the area, and not a single plant grew. I put down fresh garden soil, watered as directed, and nothing grew. Very disappointed.

They don't bloom
I ordered several of these and planted them over a month ago as directed. First, you can't tell what is weeds and what are flowers. Nothing has bloomed. We have had great rain and the other plants I have are beautiful. I gave them plenty of time but now the time to return the two boxes I didn't plant is passed. I guess my suggestion is don't buy these.

No flowers - very disappointed
The product shipped quickly and arrived on time, but that’s where the good ends. I followed the intructions exactly as written, but no flowers grew. I purchased smaller seed strips from Home Depot and planted them next to the area where I put down the roll out flowers, and those are growing nicely. The roll out flowers were a waste of money and I am extremely disappointed.

Just don’t
I do gardening 15 hours a week and first it looks like a diaper and then weed looking sprouts come but it’s so unsightly I took it out. I did it in pots too and they grew better but still weed looking plants

I was looking forward to the plants growing in front ...
I was looking forward to the plants growing in front of our fence - a shady spot. Unfortunately, after four weeks I had one plant sprout and quite honestly I am not sure if it's a plant or a weed. I am still holding out hope it is a plant. Easy Garden Roll Out Flowers Shady Garden Gardening kit - SG1000 10-Foot by 10-Inch - by Garden Innovations
