Just bought a second unit for my other laptop computer
Practical unit--so many new computers only offer one or two USB ports, yet for a writer like me, I rely on backing up my work on a daily basis, using both Cloud storage, as well as onsite USB external drives. This unit allows you to have multiple USB ports...a blessing.NOTE: if you are serious about protecting important digital items, then a back-up routine is mandatory. One other use for this multi-port unit: small, solar batteries are often rechargeable via USB. Yes, this unit easily recharges them. So, there's a lot to love with this dependable unit.

Need more USB 3 ports? This is a good choice
I've been using a smaller StarTech 4 port USB3 hub for over a year with excellent results. I needed more ports for my astronomy equipment and stuck with StarTech. This 7 port USB 3 Hub can be used either powered or unpowered. If your USB 3 connections have minimal current draw there is no need to use the included power supply. However, some devices need more current than is provided via the USB bus. This hub will serve this purpose just fine. The upgrade from the smaller 4-port hub to this one was seamless. No issues or glitches. . . It just works as it was expected to. It works with my ACER Win 10 Pro laptop with no set-up required or drivers to download. It was plug and play. I've been using this for over a month with no issues or dropped connections. The plastic housing seems a bit light weight and on the flimsy end of the spectrum. However, the USB ports and power connection perform well. No issues with the overall build quality. This is a good choice for a reasonably priced powered / unpowered 7 port USB 3 Hub.

So good I had to buy a second one.
I love these ports, they are fast (USB 3.0) convenient and seem to work every time. I have had my first port since 2019 and the other I just bought last year to give me more drive access at once. They are kinda bulky (but not obnoxious) and require power to run effectively, but besides that they are great. I feel like the bulkier design makes it sturdier as I have had my thinner ones break after months. I love these hubs.

A USB 3.0 Hub that actually supports USB 3.0 -- yay.
Happy to find a USB 3.0 powered hub that *is* actually a USB 3.0 hub -- instead of a mislabeled USB 2.0 hub:usb 4-5.1: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 20 using xhci_hcdusb 4-5.1: New USB device found, idVendor=2109, idProduct=0813, bcdDevice=90.11usb 4-5.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0usb 4-5.1: Product: USB3.0 Hubusb 4-5.1: Manufacturer: VIA Labs, Inc.hub 4-5.1:1.0: USB hub foundUSB 3.0 and 3.1 devices (SSDs) were detected properly. Absolutely perfect USB hub
StarTech is renown in the IT industry for high quality end user products. This is no different. Extremely well built, extremely function, every port is a powered USB 3.0 port and will support backwards compatibility with older with older architecture. It's very easy to install and I haven't had one single hiccup or glitch with this amazing piece of hardware. Plus, it is very appealing to the eyes on a clean, high-tech desk.

Outstanding USB 3.0 Hub!
I have tried many USB extensions and hubs. None of them ever seemed to work 100% of the time. I initially found this one at work. If our IT department uses them at the thousands of work stations we have, it must be good. Thus I purchased now two of these for my desktop computers. They are great. No perfect! Nice weight so they stay put and connections are appropriately tight. The lighting gives you a quick acknowledgment of ports in use versus those open. Likely will purchase a few more. Makes connecting anything USB simple to connect. Price is fair for this high quality device. Worth every penny plus some.

Cheap
Order this as I have a lot of USB outputs used on my motherboard. Reading the reviews I had high hopes. Upon receiving though I felt deceived how cheap and light weight the HUB was for the price point.Received a brand new unit but it was DOA. The hub also can not be used without an active/working USB plugin for it to be powered on.Besides it looking and feeling cheaply made for the price, it is not heavy enough to stay in place.I highly recommend not buying this nor would I recommend it to friends or family.

Product is fine but the actually box design could use some help.
Product is fine but the actually box design could use some help. For instance: 1. The box will slide around because it has small plastic peg legs that will not grip a surface. This is really a pain and annoying; 2. I wish the USB ports would angle up or some other way. Having them all in a straight and fixed row limits where you can put it on you desk or under your desk; 3. This product will not work for me if it was getting electrical power form the included power cable and then plugged into a USB 2.0 (not 3.0) port on my PC. Not sure why because it says it is 2.0 backwards compatible. As soon as I disconnected the power it worked but then the box is underpowered to run multiple devices off of it. You really need to plug it into a 3.0 port and use the included power cable.
