Perfect… but didn’t connect, here’s I fixed.

Thing this is amazing and I can start my PC from anywhere… but, at the start, there were connection issues, here’s what I did. Ok so, the instructions say hold down for 6 sec till it blinks twice then turns on, but apparently if you hold it for 5 sec after that then it goes into “WiFi search mode” according to someone online. So I put it in WiFi search mode for about 5-10 min, then I tried turning it back to the pairing mode(blink twice then on) and once I did it connected instantly! I don’t know why this happens but that’s my only downside, other than that, it’s awesome!!!

There may be better ways to do this

I have three of these now. They come with no instruction whatsoever, so the setup can initially be very baffling. Once I figured out what worked for me on one, I just repeated it on the other two and everything went smoothly. My apologies in advance. I’m not trying to talk down to anyone, but I’m just gonna assume no pre-knowledge and take it step by step. There may be better ways to do this. This is what worked for me. Before starting you may want to print out the (currently) fourth picture for this unit on the Amazon site for reference.Search for and Download the iPhone eWeLink Smart Home app. It’s the one with a blue icon with a white print e in the lower left quadrant. With that installed power up the unit. I used the micro-USB plug and you can use any 5v USB wall wart. I used a spare Apple one I had lying around – worked great.Open the app. If you’ve already tried unsuccessfully to pair and your unit is listed, select it and delete it. Now click on the PLUS sign at the bottom. On the next page disregard everything but the faint blue link at the bottom that says “Compatible Pairing Mode (AP)” Cool but busy pic on the next page. Here’s what it’s telling you to do: Push the Setting Button, (the one next to the micro-USB port) and hold it for about five seconds until the little red light next to it starts to ‘double flash’. Release it and then push it again for about another five seconds until it changes to a rapid single flash. Now go to your iPhone -- Settings – Wi-Fi page and when you see the network “ITEAD and some numbers” listed, select it. (This is only temporary, you won’t at all screw up your phone’s Wi-Fi) It’ll want the password. It’s: 12345678. Join.Go back to the eWeLink app. At the bottom select ‘Next’. It’ll want the name and password for your actual personal Wi-Fi network. Type in the SSID and password for your 2.4G Wi-Fi network. Make sure ‘Remember Password’ is checked and select Next. It’ll take about a minute or so and then it’ll tell you you’ve been successfully paired. It’ll give you a chance to Rename the device. Garage Door?To use it as a momentary “wall doorbell-type” button for your garage opener, press the other little Mode Toggle Button, just below the one you’ve been pushing, to turn off it’s red light. Now you should be able to press the screen virtual ‘button’ on your phone’s app to cause the third red light just below the big blue relay to momentarily flash. You’re now capable of controlling via the app.Go to the Alexa app and select ‘Skills’ from the menu and at the top Search for and Enable the “eWeLink Smart Home Fan” skill. Go back to the Alexa menu and select Smart Home. Choose Add Device. Once it finds it you can use Alexa’s screen virtual ‘button’ to activate the relay. Finally, verbally tell Alexa to “Activate Garage Door” and the relay light should flash. Remember this is a dumb switch. If the door is open it will close it and vice-versa, just like the button on your garage wall.Using a couple of feet of bell wire, insert one end of the wires into the connectors with little screws on top at the far end of the board – one into the center ‘COM’ (common) and the other into the ‘NO’ (normally open). It’s printed on the back of the board which is which.Temporarily unplug the opener. Plug the wall wart into the other half of the same AC outlet where the garage door opener is (normally) plugged in, and use wire ties to mount the unit on the opener supports. Connect the other end of the bell wires to the opener. I have a Chamberlain. On the side of the opener there are two sets of connectors with wires attached. The ones on the right have two pairs of wires – those are from the safety sensors. You’ll use the connectors next to them on the left which will probably already have one or two sets of wires connected to them from your garage wall button(s). They’re just push-in connectors. Plug in the opener. That’s it. Good luck!

It worked great for 5-6 Years but now...

The media could not be loaded. I've had this setup to open/close my garage door since 2019.2 days ago our power went out for about an hour. Now the device turns on and off, or it triggers or resets at random intervals causing my garage door to open slightly. Not sure if resetting it and reconfiguring it will help or if I should just buy a new one?You can see from the video I posted, the device appears to turn off and on by itself. It behaves as if it's being unplugged and plugged back in. I'mNot unplugging the power to it off camera. It's just sitting there untouched. If I get 5-6 years of constant use from a cheap electronic component like this, I consider that an acceptable life span. It's constantly being vibrated and exposed to dust, dirt and chemical fumes, car exhaust, freezing temperatures as well as hot humid conditions, so I think it's held up pretty well considering.

Manual is Lacking- but for the Money it's great!

I would pay 10x for something that actually worked perfect outside the box, from a US company and a better app/manual. But since it was under $15 I really did not mind getting more involved on the DIY side.I use this to open and close my commercial garage bay in my warehouse. Before, I had to use manual push buttons inside the door to operate. It's a 3 button system, Open (1 press opens door fully), Close (Need to press and HOLD to close), and STOP (emergency stop/used for when you don't want the door fully open).I setup relay one to click on for 1/2 second to activate the UP button. The second relay I set to inch for 18 seconds to close the door. The third relay I set to activate the STOP button- however this does not work as the STOP button seems to be wired in a different manner. I will update when I figure that out.2 Things that I found difficult:1- Initial connection was clunky. I do not like to allow location settings, but the app requires a precise location for initial wifi connection. After doing that I setup no problem.2- The inching did NOT work at first. After several google searches, I found out that the "Mode" button needed to be pressed to activate this. I had to press it 2x to get the inching settings to work in the app. This I found totally pointless- why would you need me to press a physical button when the app allows you to set these times on your phone? It worked after doing this even after unplugging the unit a couple times.I was able to get this to work with Alexa no problem. So now, I can say "Hey Alexa- Open the Garage!" and my garage bay door opens right up. I have a camera facing the door just in case, and will install a wifi outlet to shut the relays off after business hours to reduce security risk. (ie, if a potential intruder shouts "Open the door" the relays would be totally powered off and would not respond).Another major plus- I have forgotten my keys before, and that means a trip home and wasted time. Now if that's the case, I can open the garage! And I can now drive my car right in to the warehouse on hot or rainy days without getting out of the car- provided I don't have too many pallets stacked up inside the door.Overall, it was a great solution to opening and closing a COMMERCIAL garage door. There are many, many ready to go options for RESIDENTIAL garage doors, but the commercial 3-button setups are sadly overlooked by most manufacturers.
