A must have item!
If you are using a standard “trainset” controller then you really should not hesitate in switching to this fantastic little unit. I started with the basic Hornby speed controller bus was alarmed with how much it made the Loco’s engines buzz when moving slowly (not great for the motor) so thought I would give this a go, well what a difference! Firstly the locos no longer buzz when moving slowly but the biggest difference is the amount of extra control over Locomotive speed this unit gives. The response of all my locos is now truly linier, easier to control and most surprisingly gives a far more enjoyable experience.I wish I had purchased this unit from the start especially as it comes with the transformer and therefore is a similar price to other basic controllers where you have to factor in purchasing the transformer separately. This little unit truly transformed my whole experience od running trains – well done Gaugemaster !!

Quality DC Controller
I need an analogue controller to replace ancient equipment. Getting my trains out again after many years in boxes, I found I had a choice of 3 Triang and Hornby controllers: Hornby's R8250 proved too temperamental to cope with a shunter running over a set of points; the R965 had 2 speeds, full speed and off (much like my old kh250); I admit I didn't try the Triang P42 as it is cracked so may be dangerous. Gaugemaster has a good reputation especially for its controls, so I ordered the entry level combi which arrived very quickly from Jadlam. Simple to connect (comes with plug transformer and wires to track), it is a brilliant piece of kit running my dusty old Hornby 0-4-0s and a brand new Dapol railcar very smoothly with little Hand of God intervention. Can't recommend this controller enough.

Track controller
This is a handy controller for a single track layout that I had been intending to build.

Controller
I bought this controller to replace my Hornby one, it gives me more control.

Simple - but does what it’s supposed to do very well.
This would be a great replacement controller for the more rudimentary type generally provided in basic, off-the-shelf DC train sets. Apart from controlling the usual loop of track on a layout, it could equally be used for an isolated section, eg a group of sidings. My own reason for buying this unit was to provide a 0 - 12 volt DC supply when lubricating/servicing locos, including wheel-cleaning or even running-in the locos, off the track. To summarise, an excellent product and not over-priced. Just one caveat though - it would NOT be suitable for digital control, ie DCC layouts.

Works fine with vintage train set
I had read that vintage train sets such as Hornby Dublo 3 rail systems don't work with modern controllers but this one works just fine.

Just What I wanted
I have recently decided to rebuild my model railway after many years being stored in a box. I needed a controller and decided that a Gaugemaster was a good choice. As I will be building the model railway in stages I wanted something to get me started and the single track contoller was ideal. It didn't take me long to get it conected which is simple. I found it to be very smooth and I could maintain any speed, even very slow speeds without a problem and it would just run at that speed for as long as needed. I will in due course buy a Gaugemaster multi track controller but this is ideal for what I need at this time. I have been using this controller for several weeks now and I am still very pleased with it.
